Unconscious (Implicit) Bias in Healthcare 2023

In this live interactive one-hour online course developed by the Corewell West DEI Team, we discuss what Implicit or Unconscious Bias is, where it shows up in our work, it’s impact to equitable access to health care, and strategies to disrupt or manage our biases. This course is compliant with the LARA guidelines and the course content covers required topics outlined in the new rule added to the Public Health Code – General Rules R 338.7704 Implicit bias training standards.

• Monday 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
• Tuesday 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Thursday 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
• Friday 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

1. go to Workday [you must be on the Corewell Health network to access Workday]

2. in the search box, click "Learning" and then type in unconscious (implicit) bias

3. click Enroll

4. complete the CQ Your Bias Pre-test

5. register for the live training date of your preference

6. after completing the live training, return to Workday to complete the Post-test and receive instructions on how to claim CME/CE credit.

2. Recognize sources of unconscious bias in ourselves and our system.
3. Identify unconscious bias’s role in health inequities in medicine and patient care.
4. Practice strategies to disrupt unconscious bias.

Medicine CME: Beaumont Health designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nursing CE: Beaumont Health designates this activity for a maximum of 1.0 ANCC contact hour.  Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacy CE: Beaumont Health designates this activity for 1.0 ACPE contact hour. ACPE Universal Activity Number (UAN): JA4008259-0000-23-037-L99-P; JA4008259-0000-23-037-L99-T.  Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.  Credit will be uploaded to the NABP CPE Monitor within 30 days after the activity completion.  Per ACPE rules, Beaumont Health does not have access nor the ability to upload credits requested after the evaluation closes.  It is the responsibility of the pharmacist or pharmacy technician to provide the correct information (NABP ID and DOB (MMDD) in order to receive credit.

Psychology CE: Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibly for the content of the programs.

Social Work CE:  As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Beaumont Health is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Beaumont Health maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 1.0 continuing education credit(s).

Dietetic CPEU: 

Implicit Bias: This training meets the State of Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs requirements for training on implicit bias and provides 1.0 hour of implicit bias training.
