This module provides an overview of common drug screening methodologies with a focus on urine drug screens and their use in clinical practice.

1. Review common drug screening modalities and their clinical application
2. Review point-of-care urine drug screens available and common drugs tested
3. Discuss opioid and benzodiazepine drug metabolism as it relates to drug screening
4. Review Confirmatory testing and its functionality compared to point of care testing
5. Review case studies involving urine drug screening, clinical implications, and resultant patient care

Medicine CME: Beaumont Health designates this enduring material for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Nursing CE: Beaumont Health designates this activity for a maximum of 1.0 ANCC contact hour.  Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacy CE: Beaumont Health designates this activity for 1.0 ACPE contact hour. ACPE Universal Activity Number (UAN): JA4008259-0000-23-095-H08-P; JA4008259-0000-23-095-H08-T.  Learners should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.  Credit will be uploaded to the NABP CPE Monitor within 30 days after activity completion.  Per ACPE rules, Beaumont Health does not have access nor the ability to upload credits requested after 60 days.  It is the individual learner’s responsibility to provide the correct NABP ID and DOB (MMDD) to receive credit.

Psychology CE: Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibly for the content of the programs. 

 

Social Work CE:  As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Beaumont Health is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 1.0 continuing education credit.

State of Michigan LARA: This module provides 1 hour of pain and symptom management credit.

Drug Enforcement Administration: This module provides 1 hour of training for Medication Assisted Treatment as part of the DEA MATE Act.
