Date & Location
Friday, April 26, 2024, 12:00 AM - Friday, April 25, 2025, 11:59 PM

Overview

Dystocia in the primary indication for performing a cesarean in the birthing population if having their first birth, at term, with a singleton fetus in the vertex position.  The rate of cesarean in this population has been noted to be higher than expected when considering patient risk and medical indications for cesarean.  As a result, national efforts have been aimed at safely reducing the cesarean birth rate in this population by providing provider education about normal progress in labor and criteria to diagnose dystocia accurately.  This lecture provides this education and outlines opportunities to reduce the risk of dystocia in labor to safely prevent unnecessary cesareans.
