This intermediate lecture will cover fundamental information regarding the pathophysiology and mechanisms of injury in TBI; common cognitive and behavioral/emotional issues affecting this patient group; the typical patterns of recovery in patients with TBI and factors that may affect their outcome; and review of evaluation tools or metrics used to better assess clinical prognosis and outcome for patients with TBI. 



Objectives
  1. Describe neuropathology of TBI and explain how this relates to cognitive and emotional/behavioral issues for these patients
  2. Discuss common patterns of cognitive dysfunction and recovery of cognitive skills following mild TBI versus moderate-severe TBI
  3. Recognize other factors affecting outcome over time/prognosis, as well as other issues to be considered when interpreting cognitive test data in TBI patients
  4. Provide examples of evaluation tools used to examine neuropsychological functioning of TBI patients across settings and recovery from injury
