Overview
This educational symposium will provide health care providers with practical approaches for the management of diabetes. Participants will have the opportunity to become updated on current evidence-based guidelines, focus on practice-based learning and improvement, and network with colleagues.

Objectives

Outcome Statement:  After attending this event, the learner will have increased knowledge of the current evidence-based guidelines, new classes/agents available for the treatment of Diabetes and strategies for motivating patients to incorporate life style changes.


  1. Explain the potential clinical implications of pivotal trials of 2019.
  2. Describe the importance of hemoglobin A1C and Time-in-Range.
  3. List key items to look for when recommending mobile apps to a person with diabetes.
  4. Evaluate the place in therapy of metformin in the new era of treatment options for type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  5. Review the pharmacologic mechanisms and clinical data examining the efficacy and safety of new(er) agents for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
  6. Discuss areas of opportunity to reduce drug induced hypoglycemia inpatient.
  7. Define a fad diet and name weight loss programs that are safe to follow by a person with diabetes.
  8. Summarize the cardiovascular benefits of improved cardiorespiratory fitness in persons with and without cardiovascular disease and how these benefits compare with commonly prescribed cardiovascular medications.
  9. Identify key foundations of motivational interviewing and practice 7 new techniques for dealing with "stuck" or "resistant" patients.
