Overview

The pain management and opioid drug crisis presents challenges to many health care professionals. This module will deliver valuable information on the role of functional restoration in pain management.

Objectives

Outcome Statement: The learner will have knowledge of the psychosocial and behavioral factors that influence how pain interferes with functional activities, how health care team members can collaborate to help patients in pain regain functioning, and what strategies can be used to improve the functional of patients with chronic pain.

As a result of this activity, learners should be better able to:


  1. Describe the psychosocial and behavioral factors that influence how pain interferes with functional activities.
  2. Explain how physicians, physical and occupational therapists and other team members can collaborate to help patients in pain regain functioning.
  3. Recognize the best-practice strategies used by physical and occupational therapists to improve the functioning of patients with chronic pain.

Credit Information

In support of improving patient care, Beaumont Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Medicine CME: Beaumont Health designates this enduring material for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nursing CE: Beaumont Health designates this activity for a maximum of 1.0 ANCC contact hour(s).  Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacy CE: Beaumont Health designates this activity for 1.0 ACPE contact hours. ACPE Universal Activity Number (UAN): JA4008259-0000-20-018-H08-P | JA4008259-0000-20-018-H08-T. 

Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.  Credit will be uploaded to the NABP CPE Monitor within 60 days after the activity completion.  Per ACPE rules, Beaumont Health does not have access nor the ability to upload credits requested after 60 days.  It is the responsibility of the pharmacist or pharmacy technician to provide the correct NABP ID and DOB in order to receive credit.

Social Workers:  As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Beaumont Health is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Beaumont Health maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 1.0 continuing education credits.

Other Health Care Professionals: Other health care professionals participating in this course will be provided with a certificate of completion for 1 credit.

This module meets the State of Michigan requirement for CE on pain and symptom management.
