Innovations in Cardiovascular Prevention

In the past five years, cardiovascular prevention has rapidly expanded with novel data on risk factors and therapeutic interventions that impact them. Several new fields have emerged through these data, including Cardio-Obstetrics, Cardio-Oncology, Lifestyle Medicine and general Preventive Cardiology with dedicated advanced training as well as specialized clinics.   

The purpose of this conference is to make high-impact data available to a wide range of practitioners including cardiologists, primary care physicians, clinicians in other specialties, trainees, and students. The emphasis here is on practical application of these data in clinical practice.

1. Describe the latest advances in cardiovascular prevention with an emphasis on populations that have previously not been well-understood or characterized in general clinical care.
2. Assess the application of imaging in atherosclerosis detection, prevention and management.
3. Define the pathophysiology of lipoprotein (a), an emerging novel target for therapy, and review current and future approaches to treatment.
4. Review the individual and collective impact of nutrition, increased physical activity, stress management, and the emerging field of “Lifestyle Medicine”
5. Develop a clinical prevention protocol that addresses the triad of diet, exercise and stress management in cardiovascular prevention.
6. Describe and implement an assessment plan for pregnant patients with cardiovascular risk and/or disease.
7. Describe and implement an assessment plan as well as indications for referral in patients with malignancies and associated cardiovascular risk and/or disease
