Legally Mandatory Reporting of Suspected Abuse

This lecture will review the legal requirements for reporting cases of adult abuse, child abuse and human trafficking.

1. Discuss the legal requirements for reporting cases of adult abuse, child abuse and human trafficking.
2. Review the subtle difference between reporting obligations found in the Public Health Code, the Social Welfare Act and the Penal Code.
3. Discuss the process that occurs during investigation of these cases (i.e. Child protective services, law enforcement).
4. Recognize the existence of Beaumont Health policies on these topics.

Psychology CE: Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibly for the content of the programs.

Social Work CE: As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Beaumont Health is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Beaumont Health maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 1.25 continuing education credits.
