Overview

This lecture is available to Beaumont Health/OUWB providers ONLY.

This intermediate lecture will focus on first and second-line medication treatments for generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder, along with first and second-line medication augmentation strategies, using information from the VA and CANMAT guidelines, as well as recent information from the University of Michigan's draft updates to their Depression Guidelines.


Objectives
Outcome Statement: At the conclusion of this activity, participants will have knowledge of first-line pharmacologic treatments, second-line or augmentation medications and the evidence-based guidelines used to develop medication treatment plans for patients with major depressive and generalized anxiety disorders.

  1. Discuss with patients first-line pharmacologic treatments for major depressive disorder.
  2. Discuss with patients first-line pharmacologic treatments for generalized anxiety disorder.
  3. Recognize medications used as either second-line or augmentation in treating major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder.
  4. Identify evidence-based guidelines used to develop medication treatment plans for patients with major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder.
