Date & Location
Wednesday, May 18, 2022, 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM EST, Beaumont Hospital - Royal Oak, OUWB Large Classroom A, Royal Oak, MI

Overview

Patients from underrepresented groups in the United States can experience the effects of unintentional cognitive (unconscious) biases that derive from cultural stereotypes in ways that perpetuate health inequities. Unconscious bias can also affect healthcare professionals in many ways, including patient-clinician interactions, hiring and promotion, and their own interprofessional interactions. Providers need to understand how implicit biases and stereotypes are formed and know how to address and prevent bias and microaggressions that occur in the healthcare environment.

**Note - This training offers AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and Implicit Bias credit only

Objectives
  1. Define implicit bias, microaggression, and stereotypes
  2. Describe how implicit biases and stereotypes are formed and the ways in which they impact everyday life experiences
  3. Examine your own biases and their effects on yourself and others
  4. Increase awareness of strategies to mitigate unconscious bias
  5. Practice mitigation strategies for addressing bias and microaggressions that occur in the healthcare environment
