Mindful Media Use

The digital age has revolutionized how we learn, socialize, play, and work.  This introductory lecture will examine the concept of "behavioral addictions" applied to internet/smartphone use, explore concerning trends in mental health outcomes associated with technology overuse, and review mindfulness- and values-based interventions to mitigate these effects.

This lecture will be delivered virtually; there will not be an in-person viewing location.

1. Explain pros and cons of considering "behavioral addictions" including gambling disorder, Internet gaming disorder, and Internet Addiction as mental disorders.
2. Describe trends in mental health outcomes for "digital natives".
3. Describe interventions for reversing internet overuse.

State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit.
