Date & Location
Thursday, September 15, 2022, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM EST

Overview

This training is restricted to OUWB and Beaumont Employees and Providers Only.

Discussing the impact of social identities such as race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation immigrant status, and disability in medical treatment is crucial, as it has an impact on how patients are respected and treated for their health conditions and concerns. Patients with these identities face various challenges in navigating the healthcare system, and receiving quality care.

SPACE IS LIMITED.  Advance registration is required.

This is an interactive, virtual workshop through Zoom; you will need access to a camera/microphone to participate fully.  Participants seeking Implicit Bias credit are expected to attend the full 2-hour training.  To qualify for implicit bias credit, the training is required to be interactive between participants and the instructor.  This training will NOT be recorded.

Objectives
  1. Recognize bias, stereotypes, and microaggressions in the prenatal patient care experience
  2. Describe the risk factors associated with infant and maternal mortality in the Black community
  3. Explore how structural racism affects Black women in and outside the exam room and contributes to infant and maternal outcomes
  4. Discuss strategies to address instances of microaggressions in the patient experience
