Behavioral Health On Demand: Rapid Recognition, Diagnosis and Treatment of Eating Disorders by Avoiding Common Misconceptions

This introductory lecture will focus on the importance of early recognition in the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders, including a review of diagnostic criteria for the spectrum of eating disorders as well as validated screening tools. Throughout the lecture the importance of Health at Every Size will be highlighted.

Instructions for Completion

• Click on the REGISTER tab. Complete the registration and enter payment information (for non-Beaumont providers)
• Return to the module website (a direct link is provided in the registration confirmation email)
• Click on the Begin Activity tab and then click Launch Video
• Beaumont Health Employees and Affiliated Providers: Click Authenticate (if you are already logged into a Beaumont computer using your Beaumont network login, you will be automatically logged into the video system.  If you are at home or another off-site location, you must enter your Beaumont network login (what you use to access Beaumont's email and/or Epic system).
• Non-Beaumont (External) Providers: Enter your first name, last name, and email address where prompted
• Upon completion of the video, return to Begin Activity and click Post-Test to complete a brief attestation and evaluation to receive credit.

1. Describe the diagnostic criteria for diagnosis of an eating disorder as listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders: DSM-5
2. Recognize key findings in patient history and physical exam suggesting an eating disorder diagnosis
3. Utilize screening tools for further clarification of symptoms suggestive of an eating disorder diagnosis.
4. Discuss the importance of early recognition in the treatment (and recovery from) an eating disorder.

Nursing CE: This activity is approved for 1.0 continuing nursing education (CNE) contact hour.

Social Work CE: As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Beaumont Health is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Beaumont Health maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 1.0 continuing education credit.
