Overview
Attendees will be educated on the utility of TEG and ROTEM and how the results of these tests can impact the treatment of patients that are bleeding. The activity will review application of TEG/ROTEM in surgical critically ill patients, particularly those suffering from major trauma and concisely review the available literature for the audience. The activity will also examine the controversial role of TEG/ROTEM in non-surgical patients that are bleeding and attempt to highlight patient populations where TEG/ROTEM may be the most useful.

Objectives
  1. Describe how to interpret the results of both TEG and ROTEM can impact management of a bleeding patient
  2. Evaluate current practices and existing literature supporting the use of TEG and ROTEM in critically ill surgical patients
  3. Identify opportunities for use of TEG and ROTEM in non-surgical critically ill patients
