Overview
This educational event will focus on a review of medications used to treat pain in critically ill adults. The need for analgesia is ubiquitous in critically ill patients. With emerging literature, providers are not always current on best practices for using opiates and non-opiate adjunct pain medications. There is also a lack of understand on how pain medication use in the intensive care unit can contribute to patient withdrawal and long-term opiate medication use after discharge from the intensive care unit.

Target Audience
Specialties - Emergency Medicine
Professions - Nurse/APRN, Pharmacist, Physician, Physician Assistant

Objectives
  1. Identify strategies to optimize opiate prescribing practices in the intensive care unit.
  2. Discuss strategies to incorporate non-opiate adjunct pain medications into pain management plans for critically ill patients.
  3. Describe transitions of care practices that can be used to optimize opiate management when transitioning out of intensive care.

Registration

Pre-registration is required; connection instructions will be emailed to registered participants in advance.
