Overview

The primary goal of the Virtual Series is to bring retina surgeons together who are committed to sharing innovative strategies to foster best practices for the management of retinal pathologies.

Topics will include, but are not limited to, debates on secondary IOL approaches, macular degeneration treatments on the horizon, surgical approaches to trauma, diversity, equity and inclusion, surgical management of uveitis patients, debates on vitrectomy platforms, OCT interpretation, debates on approaches to macular hole repair, job contracts, and approaches to surgical complications.

Objectives
  1. Evaluate and treat patients with aphakia or dislocated lenses: including demonstration of different secondary lens approaches; explaining advantages and disadvantages of these various techniques; and comparing surgical outcomes between the secondary lens approaches.
  2. Describe emerging therapeutics for the treatment of neovascular age related macular degeneration that will potentially be available in the near future, including gene therapy and the port delivery system.
  3. Managing cases of intraocular trauma as a vitreoretinal surgeon, including demonstration of vitreoretinal surgical techniques in trauma and the application of advanced vitrectomy techniques.
  4. Discuss challenging vitreoretinal surgical cases and surgical techniques for successfully managing these cases.
  5. Discuss the status of diversity in ophthalmology, specifically within retina as a subspecialty, and formulate successful approaches to improving diversity, equity and inclusion in the retina space.
  6. Explain how to manage uveitis patients needing vitreoretinal surgery and the application of surgical techniques to successfully address complex vitreoretinal pathology in patients with uveitis.
