Overview

During this introductory class, students will learn basic knowledge and understanding about evidence-based Reiki Therapy. Reiki is a low-cost, non-invasive integrative practice that can reduce pain, stress, and anxiety. It works to enhance the body’s natural ability to improve and restore overall health and well-being.

The word Reiki comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” which means energy. Reiki is based on the principle of Universal Life Energy or Chi (pronounced “chee”).

Upon completion of this class, students will be able to perform a self-Reiki session.

The introduction class is a prerequisite for the Integrative Medicine Reiki Therapy Level II class.


Objectives
  1. Describe relevant medical and scientific terms and concepts.
  2. Explain the physiology of stress and its role in disease
  3. Evaluate the science behind the health benefits of breathwork and its role in self-care and Reiki therapy
  4. Define and model mindful eating and mind quieting techniques
  5. Evaluate mindful techniques and discuss relationship to Reiki therapy
  6. Describe the underlying principles and therapeutic mechanisms of Reiki therapy
  7. Perform a self-Reiki session to observe its use as a tool for stress reduction and self-care
  8. Recognize the standard Reiki treatment protocol
  9. Summarize research studies noting statistically significant results with Reiki treatment
  10. Interpret Reiki experiences and outcomes from case studies

Credits
General Attendance (5.50 hours), Nursing CE (ANCC) (5.50 hours), Social Work CE (ASWB) (5.50 hours)
